A bit of an update.........
I dug out some old tax lists and found that John Pindell is on the 1811 list in Wayne Twp., Adams Co., Ohio, and on a list of proprietors in 1812. So we know he was there at least by 1811.
I found in the IGI a birth record for a Mary Pindell, born May 5, 1803, daughter of John and Mary Pindell, and the location is stated as near Little Cove, Franklin Co., PA. The record also gives her death date as May 3, 1863. This is no doubt Mary that married Presley Prickett, and I have her death date as June 3, 1863. Someone misread a 5 for a 6, or vice versa. What is interesting about this record is that Philip Pindell lived not very far from Little Cove, just over the border in Washington Co., MD. Philip's property bordered Jacob Mills, who was the father of Elizabeth that married Thomas Pindell, brother of John. Philip sold his land in 1779 and went to Monongalia Co. It seems Thomas must have married Elizabeth Mills in 1780 or early 1781 and sometime after he went to Monongalia Co.
The History of Franklin Co., PA gives the names of several people who obtained land warrants in Little Cove between 1755 and 1769. Two names are of interest.....Rees Shelby and William Pindell. I checked the PA archives and found the one for Rees Shelby.....it is dated June 1, 1759. I haven't yet found the one for William Pindell. But WHO was William Pindell? Did the writers of the history make a mistake on his first name, and it was actually Edward? I don't know. If I can find the warrant we'll see.
