The following information was taken from a book entitled "Finding Your Forefathers in America" by Archibald F. Bennett. It states: "Charles Pine was a famous hunter and Indian fighter of Scarborough, and was described as "a reckless, daring young fellow....Here, in 1703, the little company, numbering only eight persons, were besieged by five hundred Indians....The deadly accuracy of the settlers' guns kept the savages at bay....For Pine and Hunnewell the Indians entertained a superstitious terror....In 1752 he made his will, describing himself as 'aged and infirm'....

"Pine's wife's name was Grace.... He had five children, Charles, George, Isaac, Mary and Grace. What became of Charles is not known. The report has been handed down that he went to England to claim a large inheritance there which his father had refused to accept, and never returned....Grace married John Reynolds, or Runnels, and had by him eight children. From her have descended the Scarborough Carters....His daughters, Sarah, who married Benjamin Carter, and Grace, who married Daniel Moulton, received the greater part of their grandfather's lands.

On 2 June 1734 Grace, wife of Charles Pine was added to full Communion in the First Church of Scarborough. On Oct. 25, 1741 Mary, Wife of William Dearing was a communicant. Following her name is this notation: "(Murdered by her husband 15 Feb. 1749. She was the daughter of Grace Pine admitted June 1734.)" Isaac Pine, son of Charles and Grace, was drowned 6 Feb. 1721-2.

I have a Carter line that I was researching many years ago when I ran across this information. I've always wondered if Charles got his inheritance or if it is still out there for one of his descendants to find someday!!!!
