I was told that my g-g-grandfather Benjamin Simpkins paid a gentleman who's last name was Pine, to go to the Civil War for him. Evidently this man died in the war. Benjamin I was told raised Pine's son, my g-grandfather. Does anyone know if there's a way I can find out more about this man. I have information from my g-grandfather on down till the present time. But have been unable to find anything out from back in the year my g-grandfather was born. William Henry Simpkins was my g-grndfather's name and was born in NJ, on April 29, 1860. I can find no census so far with him listed as simpkins.
