The ellipses are in the book, but tracking back further, the excerpts come from an article in the Maine Historical and Genealogical Recorder, called "Charles Pine the Hunter and Indian Fighter of Scarborough", by Hon. A. F Moulton, Vol. 8, p 207-213. Although this short excerpt does get most of the genealogical material, there is entertaining reading about Charles Pine that was cut out in the interests of brevity. "It has been quite generally believed that he belonged to a wealthy English family, and that he chose to leave his ancestral home and adopt a hunter's life in the wilderness of Maine."
