Pine Family Genealogy Forum
Thanks for the new (to me) information. I'm not able to completely clear up the confusion on Gilbert's birth date either, but I can help add to the confusion. We found what we think is Gilbert's gravestone in the old and nearly vanished Zion cemetery near Marshall, IL. The stone was for a G. Pine, who died on Sept. 25, 1858 according to the stone. No birth date was given, but it did indicate the number of years, months, and days that the lived. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the full information, but he lived to something over 56 years of age according to the stone, which would have had him born in 1802. If anything, I'm learning that one can't trust even what is carved in stone sometimes.
