Family myth

I once read that Jacques Pinneau jumped out the back window of a church when the King's soldiers were at the door. He fled first to Holland, and then came to the Colonies.

He was chased out of France by a Catholic King who was sending the troops out to hunt down those who attended Protestant prayer meetings.

Do you ever suppose that Jacques told his story and it got around to others? And it was this event that our Framers had in mind when they discussed separation of Church & State seven decades later?

I descend from his daughter, Submit Pineo.

I sometimes wonder what Jacques would think of how my family is made up now...I have second cousins that are Lutheran, Methodist, Catholic & Jewish. I have first cousins that our Black, Italian, Chinese, Korean and Spanish.

We have come a long way---but we have a long way to go.
