Thanks for answering. I am not related to the Pinyan/Pinion family. They are my husband's ancestors from way back.

The death certificate for my husband's gg-grandmother says that she was the daughter of Jerry Barker and Polly Pinion.

She was Mary Elizabeth Barker Howell. Her death certificate says that she died in Canton, Cherokee, GA. It gives her dates as 13 Nov 1844-15 Oct 1936.

I believe that her parents were also known as Jeremiah Barker and Mary "Polly" Pinyan, and that Mary "Polly" Pinyan's parents were Stokes Pinyan and Nancy Talley.

I have not done a whole lot of research on the children of Stokes Pinyan, but find that some of the early folks from Cherokee, Pickens, and Dawson Cos GA are somewhat difficult to keep straight because of repeated given names, confusion as to exact ages on the census data and also because of the Civil War and the fact that during those times, people seemed to move a lot.

I have researched quite a bit on my husband's Townsend line from the same area. It is very easy to make mistakes on them for all of the same reasons.
