I read in an Encyclopedia of Surnames that the name PINION is from Wales in the United Kingdom. It comes from the Welsh language and originally it was pronounced something like "ap einion" which means "son of anvil"

I met a fellow from Wales once and he told me there was an entire tribe of Pinions in Wales still. He may've been pulling my leg. I did notice however that there are about 50 listings for the last name PINION in the UK in the White Pages Internet Directory. Apparently all of us didn't immigrate to America
