Alex, I found some information about your family in the Louise Wilson Pinion book about the Pinions.

"John Pinion b. North Georgia exact place unknown, birthdate unknown, death ca. 1900 in Somerset Co. TN. He is buried near Merryville, TN. He married (1) Mary Cox and (2) Julia Shaw.

John Pinion and Julia Shaw had the following children:
Ethyl b. TN, 6 Aug 1891
Clara b. AL, 1 Sep 1892
Florence b. ca. 1893
John Oscar Pinion b. TN, 18 Nov 1899"
(This book says he married Snow Rosser b. 22 Mar 1900 on 17 April, 1920)

It goes on to list your aunts and uncles, cousins, etc. It says you work for TVA in Chattanooga. Of course this was published some twenty years ago

It's funny about the way our name is spelled. I suppose since many folks could not read or write, they would say their name to census-takers, for instance, and leave the spelling up to the person doing the writing. Ive seen Pinion, Pinyan and even Pynion

Gene
