I am descended from the Alabama Pinions on my paternal grandmother's side. I have recently discovered Mary Cox in my family tree and am fairly certain of the following information:
*Born about 1872 in Jefferson County, AL
*Father: William A. Cox
*Mother: Nancy S. Crane
*Had 3 husbands:
-(Ben D.? not sure of first name) Hill, m. 10/10/1891
--Had son Arthur C(larence?) Hill, b. 1893 in Bessemer, AL. Don't know what happened to Hill, he might have died, or it may have been divorce. I have heard Arthur is shown in 1910 (age 17) to be living with a John and Mattie Morris in Monroeville, AL, and that he also changed his last name to Morris. I am fairly certain this is correct, because his 1952 obituary says he died in Peoria as ARTHUR C. MORRIS in Illinois, and is survived by his wife Lillian and their 6 daughters and 2 sons, as well as his mother, Mrs. Mary Fielden of Bessemer, AL, and half-brother, John Oscar Pinion (my great-grandfather).
-J.R. Pinion, m. 3/22/1896
--Sometime after this marriage, she, her son Arthur, and her new husband moved (with Pinion's 3 daughters from previous marriage) up to Tennessee. Here, another son, John Oscar Pinion, was born in 1899 in Ducktown, TN; I think J.R. Pinion died before or after the birth, because the 1900 census shows Mary back in Jonesboro, AL (neighborhood of Bessemer, AL) as the head of household with her two sons and Pinion's 3 daughters: Ethel, Clara, and Florence.
-James H. Fielden, m. 12/8/1913 (not sure when he died)
I have yet to find her date of death. If she survived her oldest son, Arthur, then in 1952, she would have been 80 years old. Most people didn't live that long back then, but there certainly are exceptions! Again, I'm about 90% sure this information is correct. If you want to know any more, please don't hesitate to ask.
