To Michelle or anyone else who runs across this post:
Uel Pinkerton or Barbour County, Alabama is my 4th-Great-Grandfather. I am descended through his daughter, Mahala Jane Pinkerton-Searcy. I knew nothing much about Uel until I found his entry in a roster of Alabama volunteers in the Mexican-American War. He fell ill in Veracruz, Mexico and was shipped back to the U.S. (most likely via a steam/paddle boat up through the Mississippi River) to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri where he died in 1848 at the age of 37.
I have nothing concrete on his ancestors but this post gives me alot of clues to go research. I just wanted to post this to acknowledge Michelle's work/notes as well as just in case there are others looking to connect with this family. Always interested in comparing/debating information.
Happy Hunting, All!
