In St. Augustine, FL a medal was presented
to W.S.M.Pinkham, which was called The Pink-
ham Medal in a newspaper clipping we have.
He rescured a fellow citizen from drowning
and the Society presented him with that
medal (I have a description, if you are
interested). Also, this same Pinkham, was
the first superintendant of Public Instruc.
in St. Johns, FL. He had built the Orange
Street School. He owned Pinkham's Dock which
was across the street from his hotel, the
Ocean View Hotel. At one time the Pinkham
family lived in a home built on the end of
this large dock. Now this has been converted
to the Santa Maria Restaurant in downtown
St. Augustine and is popular with tourists.
