Fox & Geese Mittens made by families in Harpswell

Does anyone know the history of the Fox & Geese Mittens that were made by families in Harpswell? My great grandmother Jannett Mabel (Allen) Pinkham knit them. She moved from Harpswell in about 1916 to Parkman. Does anyone have any family lore about those mittens? My mother still makes these wonderful doulble knit mittens. I would like to know more about them.

Thanks,
Yo-Jean Huff Benson
