U. C. Pipes is my grandfather and I know very little about him. What I have is below. Paul Bruce Pipes, his son by Elizabeth (Bettie) Byron COOK, was my father. No one in my family know what happened to U. C. after he and Bettie divorced, probably in the early 1900's. Do you have any more information?

I hope this is helpful. Thanks for any information you can give me.

Paul Bruce Pipes' wife, Opal Mae Wilson said he remembered his father as being a violin maker. He traveled with his father, Clinton U., from Eagle Lake, TX to San Antonio to sell his violins. She also remembered that, after his divorce from Elizabeth Byron Cook in 1905, Paul Bruce Pipes thought his father went back to Louisiana, probably to Monroe. The birth certificate of Paul Bruce Pipes also listed his father's name as Ulysses Paul Pipes, born in Louisiana in 1855. Steven Pipes, 124 38th Ave., Nashville, TN 37209-4928, (615)383-6475, called on 22 Aug 1993 and said that he had information from Thomas E. Pipes, 1410 16th St., Lake Charles, LA 70601, indicating that my grandfather was Uriah Clinton Pipes, born 27 May 1850 in Douglas, Jackson Parish, LA.

First wife, M. S. Stallings, identified from Pipes family bible.

Tammy Pipes, in an email message, said her paw paw remembered meeting Uriah Clinton in Shreveport, where he was a jeweler. Her paw paw is 84 years old as of November 15, 1998. Marriage date is from North American Vital Records Index (VRINA).

Uriah Clinton was postmaster of Douglas, Jackson Pa., LA from 11 Mar 1872 to 15 Oct 1872.
