Letter dated: August 18, 1831, Hopewell Prairie, Near Columbus, Miss.
John Pitchlynn writes to President Andrew Jackson. John states that he has spent 50 years in support of the American Government and did his part for the well-being of the Choctaw People.He wishes to place his son, Thomas Jefferson Pitchlynn at the Military Academy at West Point.He would like Thomas to take his place as the interpreter.At this time, he has three daughters at home: Betsy, Eliza and Kezzia.He also has a creek girl named Onaheli who is an orphan brought from the last Creek War.His son Jack Pitchlynn Jr. is dead, leaving two sons.Their mother was the daughter of Levi Colbert.They are with their aunt, in the Chickasaw Nation.
