Lorenzo Harris NOT brother of William Riley Harris
Posted by: L. Swink (ID *****7607) Date: August 17, 2002 at 08:23:21

Elizabeth C. Pitchlynn married Lorenzo G. Harris and was he was the brother-in-law of Wm. Riley Harris. Annie Taffe Arnot Lorenzo's Grandaughter stated in the Tom News that Lorenzo was born in the New Bern region of NC. There is no record of Lorenzo in Hyde Co. NC, census, court, church or otherwise.
The Ezekiel Harris Bible does not list a child named Lorenzo. The bible record has been published by Hyde County and a Harris relative who submitted the entry has seen the original Bible pages and says there are no blank spaces, erasures or crossed off names, etc.
A photo of Lorenzo shows him sandy haired and light complection, when the photo of William Gordan Harris a nephew of Wm Riley's shows very dark and abundant hair and beard. Wm. Gordan was also in the Choctaw Nation.
It appears that in the past someone has jumped to the conclusion that William Riley and Lorenzo were related by blood because of the name. No one in the Harris family alive at the time ever said they were brothers.
There is no record of Lorenzo in the Mississippi archives before he married Elizabeth (Betsy), although it has been reported that Lorenzo had a store in Mississippi.
