did Choctaw own slaves

I am having a very difficult time tracking my family tree. I was told by my mother that most of my genealogy starts with the 13th tribe of the Choctaw Indians. I have read of the reallationships that Peter Pitchlynn had with both George Washington and Thamas Jeferson. I would like to know if the Choctaw Nation owned slaves, and if so how did they acquire them? I am also aware of the fact that the Choctaw mixed with the white race, is it possible that they could have also mixed with the African race?????
