I do not think we should get too hung up on spelling here. Pidcock and Pitcock are obviously the same name and in an age when literacy was uncommon I am not sure they knew how to spell it-in fact was there a "proper" spelling?
IfI suspect it may have been Pidcock but when Stephen moved to Virginia and his descendants married into German families the "harder" "t" sound prevailed.

I am interested in this family because I am descendant from Harriet Pitcock (1821-1874) who married William Orndorff. I suspect she was a daughter of John and Magdalena Renner Pitcock but have no proof-- I would really like to know more about this family, since I do have all my Orndorffs and other lines worked out.
Could Stephen have been a grandfather of my Harriet?
