I know I'm a Pidcock, not Pitcock, but I'm doing a one-name study of the Pidcock surname and I'm sure that there is a connection between the two surnames. The IGI on the internet only lists 31 Pitcocks in the British Isles, and I know for certain that the father of some of those christened was a Pidcock and not a Pitcock, namely Gilbert who christened his children at Shoreditch. He was born in Darley, DBY and was a quite notorius character. Most of the Pitcocks on the IGI are in the same area as Pidcocks, namely Derbyshire and Manchester; the odd ones out are those in Suffolk.
I would be very interested in what you have discovered of your ancestors, to see if there is any link to the Pidcocks, and I may be able to help you in your research.
I am in regular contact with a Pitcock USA who is also convinced that Pidcocks and Pitcocks are connected.
