Pitman/Owens connection?
Posted by: Carol Hull (ID *****6110) Date: August 08, 2012 at 07:07:59

On the 1860 census, W H C Pitman was 12 years old and living in the household of Joseph W. Owens in Leake Co, MS. On the 1870 census, William Pittman appears in the household of Martin Owens, Joseph's son, again in Leake County. During the 1870s, the Owens family apparently re-located to Texas, with Joseph dying in Paris TX and his wife and son dying later in Ennis, Ellis Co TX.

My gg-grandfather, William H. Pittman, appears in Van Zandt County TX on the 1880 census, having apparently moved to Texas from MS or GA in the early 1870s and having married a Texas girl in 1875. I am trying to determine if he is the same William Pittman who is associated with this Owens family. If so, how did he come to be living in Joseph's household in 1860?
