Hi Bitsy,
Thanks for the response, my great grandfather and two of his brothers served under Major Pitner. They two, were captured at Vicksburg and released with the same parole requirement. They also went back to Dalton/Varnell and then rejoined the fight. One of the brothers, John W., my G-GF's twin brother, was recaptured and died in the Union POW camp at Rock Island, ILL. To have a relic (sword) as you do is great. I have no documents or relics of my family as my grandfather was burned out of his home three times during his lifetime. And no records or artfacts survive to this day. I am trying to locate some of his/my family in the Varnell/Dalton area, but I've gotten no response so far.
