Pitner Petner Pritner

Hi all...

Just discovered that my gg grandfather and his brother were occasionally listed (census and civil war information) as Petner and ocassionally Pritner.

I've found very little linking my Pitners (George W., Levi H., John Smith Pitner and Hattie Pitner, all siblings) with the Pitners discussed in Fischer's genealogy.

Levi lists his father as born in Ohio (would have been around 1825 or earlier) and his mother as born in NJ, however I've found no trace of who his parents might have been. Levi was born in Greene County, PA in 1849, and he and his brother George both lived in West Virginia (pandhandle) during the 1880s - 1900s. Levi was a blacksmith.

Could their actual surname have been Pritner or Petner instead of Pitner? Anyone out there working on the Petner or Pritner surnames?

Debbie
