Hi all --

came across this on Ebay -- a painting being auctioned by Sotheby's -- a little rich for my blood! But I thought I'd pass this along for general interest!

Franz Pitner was a renowned Austrian portrait and genre painter of the second half of the 19th century. He studied in Vienna and Rome, where he stayed during 1853-1854. He was also active in Venice. He died in 1892 in Bozen, South Tyrol, then part of Austro-Hungarian Empire, now Italy.
