The first known PITSENBARGER in the US was Abraham. He served in the Rev War and died in 1781 after writing a weill naming his wife Elizabeth and 6 children: Jacob, Abraham Jr, Peter, Elizabeth, John, and Philip.
Of son John we know nothing more that his name in the will. Jacob married Margaret BUTCHER/METZGER (same name), Abraham Jr married Mary COWGER, Peter married Mary Magdalene FRY, Elizabeth married John MOTES, and Philip is said to have married a woman named Catherine. All but Abraham Jr left Virginia and ended up in Ohio. Elizabeth died in 1820 in Jackson Co., OH. Jacob died in 1840 in Darke Co., OH, Peter died in 1837 in Darke Co., OH. Philip was counted in the 1830 census but disappears, presumed dead, after payng taxes in Shelby Co., OH, in 1834.
Lines down from Jacob and Peter are pretty well known until about 1900. Philip's children are something of a mystery and 'discovered' by eliminating those known to belong to Jacob, Peter, and Abraham Jr. Abraham Jr's lines down were publshed by Walter Eye thought the first edition was largely derived from census and marriage records (I have not seen his new edition).
My own information is focussed on the families that came to Darke Co., OH, who moved west to Indiana and Missouri/Kansas.
See a general outline of the family at http://www.calweb.com/~wally/darke/w-pits2.htm
