Hello Drew,
I got my results back from the FamilyTreeDNA.I had forgotten your advice on taking the 25 marker test and only ordered the 12 marker test.I have since updated my test to 25 and will wait for the results. On this test I matched only two people with Pittillo last name. One person I matched had a family tree submitted and it went back as far as a Littleton from Henderson County NC, son of John Jr. of Burke Co. NC, son of John Sr of Burke County.Maybe I can start looking closely at the children of John Sr and Jr. to see if any of their children or grandchildren moved to Tennessee.
This is my line starting with my father
Father - Earnest Rueal Pittillo b. Nov. 9, 1928 Rains Co., Texas.died Aug. 24, 1986 Lincoln Co., NM
Grandfather - Boza Bishop Pittillo b. Dec. 29, 1873 or 74 in Linnville, Giles County, Tennessee.(though I was told by an uncle he was born in Columbia which is Maury County) died Sept. 9, 1944 Rains Co., Tx
Great Grandfather -James J. Pittillo m. Annie Waldrop or Waldroup in Giles Co. Oct. 25, 1871. The 1880 Giles census finds Annie and her son " Bosy "living with her parents Martin and Jane Waldroup. James may have died prior to 1880.
That's as far back as I can positively go.
There is a James P Tillo living with a Joseph Strayhorn on the 1870 census of Giles Co. as a farm laborer.Could this be my James? If it is then the age of this James matches the age of a James Pittillo (b. about 1842) I find in Jefferson Co. Tenn.Son of Samuel Pittillo. ( I think parts of this family lived in Knoxville, Knox Co.) I'm not sure this is my connection, but I'm looking into it.
Family Oral history says James J. Pittillo left home looking for work and never returned. It was said he may have been killed in a riverboat explosion. My great grandmother Ophelia Annie Waldrop Pittillo Cochran wouldn't speak of him much. She may not have known what happened to him for sure, or didn't want to say.So, I don't have much to go on trying to put this puzzle together. I need more pieces.Thats why I took the DNA test.
I need to find more Pittillo families living in neighboring counties around 1870, this may help also.
Thanks Drew for your many postings on this forum and for encouraging me to take the DNA test.Bill
