My name maiden name is Plachta and my grandfather was Louis Plachta from Detroit, MI. I never knew him as he passed away in 1949, but I know of my family through my dad, Leonard. Louis married Veronica (Kate) Ozymkowski, from Decatur, IL, who was one of 18 kids. They had three children, Leonard (my dad), Daniel, and Adele. Dannie still lives in the Detroit area, Adele passed away in 1998. She was a Felician sister who lived in California. My mom and dad still live in Mt. Pleasant, MI, and have 6 grandchildren between my sister and I.
Re:Jack's question about Russia and/or Polish birth: my grandparents on my mom's side are from Poland as well; my grandfather was born in what is now Russia and was actually Prussia in 1896 at his birth. When he immigrated in 1912, they called it Poland. His last name was Szynal (and I have an aunt Catherine who we call Kasia...)
Please feel free to e-mail me directly; I'm very interested in any information anyone may have.
Linda (Plachta) Jarial
