Dear Larry,
Thanksfor your interest in this branch of the Plasek Family. Many years ago, my mother got in touch with a Plasek from Houston. He shared dome info regarding the Texas Plaseks. They found no connection.I am sure that in Moravia they were cousins.I have been aware of the Texas Plaseks for a long time.Did you know about us?
My niece Amy Prochaska was born and raised in Oklahoma. Her voice teacher was a Plasek from Texas.Small world!
My mother was Marie Plasek Prochaska 1916-1991).This is the info that she gathered.
Frantisek (Frank) Plasek was born in 1816 and dies on July 13th.He died in Butler County, Nebraska and was buried in the Catholic cemetary at Appleton, Nebraska(Butler County). He immigrated to the US in 1875 from MOravia..There is no mention of a wife but he came with his three sons and his daughter. His sons were John, Frank, Joseph, and his daughter was Mary.
They initially settled near Linwood, Nebraska (Butler County).Later they moved to the Appleton area.Appleton consisted of a Catholic Church, a post office and a general store.Eventually all that was left was the church and a church hall.
John Plasek eventually settled in Hasting Minnesota. He had four children. They were John, Jr., Rudolf, and Ann (Mrs. Frank Kadavy of Lincoln) and Christina (Mrs Louis Kadavy of Valparaiso, Ne).
Frank was a musician and played the accordian with a trio.He was last heard from when he was about 38 years of age.He was in Florida.
Mary never married and made her home with her brother Joseph and his family. She was handicapped. She had a deformed hand and one foot had no toes. She dies in 1923 and is buried in Appleton.
Joseph Plasek (June1, 1852-April 10, 1926) married Katerina Ceplecha Virgl,(born 1850-July 23, 1922) and the widow of Pter Virgl..She had a daughter, Mary Virgl.Joseph and Katherina hadtwo sons:Joseph James(1883-1965), my grandfather and Anton (1892-1972?).Joseph was a carpenter, a farmer and a musician. He played the clarinet.
This is a brief rundown of what I know. There aren't many Plaseks left aroun here and that is why I wanted to make contact with the Hasting, Minnesota branch.
Hope this makes sense!Jane Prochaska
