Hello - I just noticed the messages re George Platz and am wondering if he could possibly be my great-great grandfather. My great-grandmother, Elizabeth Platz, married Capt. Thomas Hand and they lived in the Fishtown (Kensington) section of Phila. at 1108 E. Montgomery Ave. Both are buried at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in West Phila.
According to my octogenarian uncle, who spent lots of time with "Lizzie" when he was a child, her father was in the draying business and owned horses for that purpose. He also lived in Phila. but may have eventually emigrated there from farmlands in central or western Pa. Her mother, who we believe was of Irish or Scotch/Irish descent smoked a corncob pipe and was for some time a housekeeper for an aged Darlington or Smedley in western Delaware County. Any information that anyone on this site can provide would be deeply appreciated.
