Good Morning Howard - Many thanks for your response. Although there may be some connection somewhere, I don't think our Georges are one and the same. To the best of my knowledge, my great-grandmother, (Mary) Elizabeth Platz' father, George, stayed in Philadelphia after his move there and conducted a rather successful draying business. I will contact my uncle and see what details I can obtain from him about that. Mamaa (as we called her) was born c. 1861 - I remember this since one of her claims to fame was that she was 4 years old when Lincoln's cataflaque came through Phila. in 1865 and she watched the procession from her father's shoulders, where he had hoisted her. I believe there may have been several siblings, as I have a photo of one sister, Margarette (Maggie) who attended a friend's funeral in the rain, caught cold the next day and died of pneumonia several days later, aged in her early 20s. She and Mamaa and perhaps another sister were seamstresses who also earned money by sewing baseballs in their own little cottage industry. There also may have been a brother who died early on. Mamaa married Capt. Thomas Hand (a move up for her)who was a decade older than her and had two children, Norman Hand and Alice Hand Albertson, my grandmother. If any of this rings a bell, please let me know. I will see how much more my uncle knows. Again, thanks for your response. Alyce
