For the past 32 years I have been hunting for family, and I would like to think that someone out here knows who I am talking about, or can help out a great deal.
I am talking about my great great great grandpa, respectivly- Hiram Jones. The information I have on him is this:
He married Rebecca Morningstar Lightfoot in Holmes Co. Oh in 1844 ( I can not find the marriage).
1850... Hiram 30 Born MI, Rebecca 22 OH,Mary A 4 IN,Sarah E 2 IN, and Harriet 1/2 IN
1860....Hiram 39 born OH, Rebecca 34 OH,Mary 14 OH,Sarah E 14 OH,W.H. 7 OH,Isiah 5 OH,Jacob 4 IN,Phebe C 1 IN, and Harriet 10 IN.
1870.....Hiram 50 born IN, Rebecca 43 OH,Mary Ann 23 IN,Sarah 22 OH, Harriet 20 OH, Wm H 17 IN,Isiah 18 IN,Jacob 12 IN,Phebe 10 IN,Lydia 8 IN,Arilla 6 IN, Thomas 3 IN, and Noah 1 IN.
By the 1900 census (St. Joseph Co. IN)it just had Rebecca head of home-widowed with her 2 sons Thomas R widowed and Noah H single.
I do not know where Hiram is buried. I have never seen his photo. I do not know any of his siblings names or parents.
It has been suggested that maybe he was adopted and he was from the great lakes but didnt exactly know where. That he may have been Native American, because it is someplace in our family- and Hiram has not had any info on him at all.
Maybe if someone can help me find info on him through a marriage license from one of his children?
Here is whom I have some of his children marrying to:
Lydia married Henry Platz
Arilla married Leslie Platz
Kathryn married Isaac Pembrook West
Hatti married Nellie Wiltfong.
My Uncle Robert Platz (He was from the Platz families) married my dads sister- which makes them 2nd or 3rd cousins. We as family know each other and they have heard the same about the Native American being in our family. My grandfather also came to me after he passed and greeted me in a manner I never knew. I come to find out that it is an old Algonquin Indian greeting. From the Cherokee or Miami. Thats one reason why we are looking at Hiram.
Sorry I do not have dates for the marriages- but thats all I have.
I hope someone out there is related to Hiram or can help.
Thank you very much in advance.
