Earl or William Playford, Zanesville

Hello,

I have been trying to trace my Grandfather, Earl J Playford, to the Playfords of Zanesville, Ohio.

This has proven extremely difficult. EJ died in 1965, the year before I was born. He lived most of his adult life in in Portland, Oregon. Apparently, he wasn't very fond of disclosing too much about who he was and where he originally came from. He always claimed to have been raised in Muncie, Indiana and that he had left home at age 12 or thereabouts. I have thus far been unable to find any Playfords in the Muncie, Indiana area. He was born either in 1889 or 1891, depending upon whether one believes his service record or his tombstone.

Anyway, in his possession were a series of photos from the second half of the 19th Century. There are no names listed on any of them but they were all made in Zanesville, Ohio. I then found the Playford (George, et. al.) family of Zanesville. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find an EJ" or Earl among the progeny of George, or his children.

According to his death certificate, his parents were named William Playford and Hattie Linggood, although I can't be sure that these are their actual names.

So, any help on the existence of an Earl or William Playford tied to the Zanesville areas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Shanon
