Pleger Family Genealogy Forum
Wow, this internet is really something! I've wondered for years about all my relatives but never knew how to find out who all of them are. I am Vicki Pleger Schumacher of Santa Maria, California, formerly of Oil City, PA. My grandfather, Julius, was one of the twins born on the boat on the trip over from Germany. From all the messages I've read, I guess that makes Karl (Charles) Pleger my great grandfather. Julius's twin brother, Fred, lived in Youngstown, Ohio, and had two children: Mary Louise, who never married, and Freddy, who was married to Dolores (don't know her maiden name). Freddy and Dolores couldn't have children, so they adopted a baby girl they named Mary Anne who is a few years younger then me. I am 54. My father's name was Harold ("Pud") who was the son of Julius. "Pud" Pleger married Evangeline (Vange) Michaels and had only one child, ME (Vicki). Grandpa Julius had one other son, Wilson (Willie or "Wishy") who was married to Connie (don't know her maiden name), and they had a daughter, Tammy, who would now be 45. Tammy would be my first cousin though I haven't seen her since she was two years old. Wilson lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and died there of lung cancer when Tammy was 5 years old. Tammy and her Mom, Connie, then moved to Lynchberg, Virginia, where Connie was from. My Dad and Connie kept in touch by mail for years, but I was a kid and still lived in Oil City. I would sure like to be able to contact Tammy. Maybe she will get on this site eventually. Anyway, my Dad "Pud" and Julius lived their entire lives in Oil City. My Mom, Vange, died in 1964 at age 47. In 1968 I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to live with my cousin and best friend, Toni Neubauer. Toni's grandmother, (I'm not sure of her name), and my grandfather, Julius, were brother and sister. I left Oil City when I was 18 in 1968. I remember Uncle Henry, Uncle Ed, and Uncle John. We used to have an annual Pleger Reunion at Hassen Park every summer. Relatives would come from all over to attend. It was great fun seeing everyone and tons of great food! Those Pleger women could really cook!!! Anyway, I am married to Dale Schumacher of Dubuque, Iowa, originally. We met in Pasadena in 1971. We have been together for 33 years, married for 25 years, and have one child, a son named Alex, who is 18 years old. Probably the Pleger relatives I'm closest to in Oil City were the children and grandchildren of Amelia Nurss (her married name). Amelia's Mother (I don't remember her name) was the sister to my grandfather, Julius. My Dad, "Pud", died in 1995 at age 75. Therefore, I have no more immediate family in Oil City, but a lot of relatives. I sure would like to get to know you and how you are related to this "gang" of Plegers! Also, I laughed about the itchy traveling feet--I thought I got that from my Mother's side of the family! I hope you get this. I would surely enjoy communicating with everyone and would definitely like to get a copy of the family history you are creating. Hope to hear from you soon.
