John Plaifs / Plaiss
Posted by: Alice Luckhardt (ID *****4061) Date: July 09, 2005 at 14:34:01

Working recently on my husband's line takes me to John Plaifs / Plaiss / from Stetten am Heuchelberg in Wurtemberg, Germany - born September 30, 1793.
He married Anna Barbara Floch on August 02, 1827 in Floyd Co., Indiana.
He may have arrived in Indiana between 1822 - 1826 (but have nothing for sure.
My question concerns a family legend about John:
that John's brothers left Germany around 1808 as not to serve in Napoleon's Army. But John did join as a drummer boy and served in Napoleon's' Army, including during the Battle of Waterloo.
Does anyone have additional information on this story?
