Richard J Plenge, a cafe owner, is shown with wife Clara D on the 1920 census in Winston-Salem, NC. Clara has a daughter who is listed in other sources as either Clement or Clemmon Brown. Clara signs herself as Clara Baker Plenge. Adding these facts together, Baker must have been her maiden name, Brown her daughter's father, and D either a mistake by the census-taker or her maiden middle initial.
Richard died in 1923 in W-S, and so far, we haven't been able to turn up what happened to Clara and her daughter, nor any prior history on them. Richard is single and living in Charleston, SC, on the 1910 census, so they married between 1910-1920. Richard's obit states he moved to W-S approx 1916 from Spartanburg, SC. It is possible he met Clara there, but W-S is more likely since the daughter's birthplace is listed as NC.
