FORT KENT, Maine - Gerard Plourde, 83, died peacefully June 8, 2010, surrounded by his family at a Fort Kent health care facility. Gerard was born May 3, 1927, in Fort Kent, the son of Alphonse and Theresa (Charette) Plourde. Gerard was a very special, successful entrepreneur in the logging industry. He began working in the woods at age 13 with his horses. He had the opportunity to see the industry grow into the era of modern technology. He also took a break from this career and worked in the construction industry with Bridge Construction for 17 summers and Pinkham Lumber for 17 winters. During his vacations, he was instrumental in the harvesting of potato crops for many Caribou and Fort Fairfield area farmers. Gerard became an avid golfer in his so called "retirement years" where he was a member at Fort Kent Golf Club, a senior member of Aroostook Golf Association, Lions Club and Senior Citizens Club. Having done his Cursillo, living his fourth day. His most important affiliation was Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 0352 of Fort Kent. Family and the love of life was what Gerard cherished most. He will be remembered by his loving wife of 57 years, Bella (Jandreau) Plourde; and his four children, Ina St. Jean, Dean Plourde and wife, Karen, Vickie Boucher and husband, Bert, and Dale Plourde and wife, Lynn. He is also survived by grandchildren, Merya Schleife and husband, Randy, Jessica St. Jean, Bradley, Barton and special companion, Michelle, Alexander and his fiancee, Ashley, Derick Plourde, Casey, Jared and Taylor Boucher, Jerod McBreairty, Chelsey, Cody and Austin Plourde. In addition are his siblings, Joel Plourde and wife, Claudette, Venette King, and Burnette Bowker and husband, David; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Plourde and Lucienne Plourde; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gerard was predeceased by a son-in-law, Gerard St. Jean; his sister, Annette; four brothers, Normand, Claude, Reginald and Valere; one brother-in-law, Garfield King; and sister-in-law, Lucy Plourde. Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday until time of service at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated with full Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Honors 11 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal services will be after at the parish cemetery. In Gerard's memory, those who wish may donate to Valere and Lucy Plourde Scholarship Fund, P.O.
