Esther PLUMER (b. Aft. November 1760 {Source: Early Records of Jefferson Maine, NEHGS "Register" Vol. 73 pg. 94., Esther Plummer born November 176_.}, perhaps in Scarborough, Cumberland Co., ME, daughter of ? married February 1784 to Solomon HOPKINS (b. March 12, 1757 in Newcastle, Lincoln Co., ME). Any ideas as to her parents. A probable sister is Hannah PLUMER born abt. 1763 around in possibly York, York Co., ME that married about 1780 to Solomon's brother William HOPKINS born about 1763, both are sons of David HOPKINS (b. Abt. 1727 in Lincoln Co., ME, son of Solomon HOPKINS (Bef. 1700 in possibly Wales - progenitor of this family in the U.S. (no connection to the earlier Hopkins) - d. Abt. February 06, 1796 in Nobleboro, Lincoln Co., ME). David married Jane SIMPSON (b. September 29, 1735 in York, York Co., ME, d/o Joseph and Abigail (Webster) SIMPSON. Any help would be appreciated as she is my ggg-grandmother ! I thought perhaps they may be the daughters of the New Hampshire branch, but I failed to make a connection. (but what I did find is most interesting, so I will post it: as follows: SAMUEL5 PLUMER (SAMUEL4, SYLVANUS3, SAMUEL2, FRANCIS1)1 was born January 14, 1720/21 in Newbury, Essex Co., MA1,2, and died March 14, 1803 in Epping, Rockingham Co., NH. She was born September 15, 1731 in York, York Co., ME, and died August 01, 1752 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. He married (2) MARY DOLE4 Aft. April 08, 1755 in Newbury, Essex Co., MA5, daughter of WILLIAM DOLE and REBECCA PEARSON. She was born September 16, 1731 in Newbury, Essex Co., MA, and died August 04, 1800 in Epping, Rockingham Co., NH.

Samuel PLUMER was a cordwainer by trade and lived on Prospect street in that part of Newbury which was incorporated as Newburyport in 1764. In 1768 he moved to Epping, NH. He called himself of Exeter in 1769. He was a large land Holder. He filed marriage intentions 8 April 1755 in Newbury to wed Mary, daughter of William and Rebecca (Pearson) DOLE, Jr. of Newbury.

William PLUMER a Senator from New Hampshire; born in Newburyport, Mass., June 25, 1759; moved with his parents to Epping, N.H., in 1768; completed preparatory studies; Baptist exhorter; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1787 and commenced practice in Epping, N.H.; held various local offices; member, State house of representatives 1785-1786, 1788, 1790-1791, 1797-1800, and served as speaker in 1791 and 1797; member of the State constitutional conventions in 1791 and 1792; elected as a Federalist to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James Sheafe and served from June 17, 1802, to March 3, 1807; was not a candidate for reelection; member, State senate 1810-1811, and chosen president of that body in both years; elected as a Jeffersonian Republican to be Governor of New Hampshire 1812-1813, 1816-1819; presidential elector on the Democratic ticket in 1820; retired from public life and engaged in literary pursuits; one of the founders and the first president of the New Hampshire Historical Society; died in Epping, Rockingham County, N.H., December 22, 1850; interment in the family burial ground on his estate near Epping, N.H.

William PLUMER, jr. (1789-1854) son of William Plumer, a Representative from New Hampshire; born in Epping, Rockingham County, N.H., February 9, 1789; attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, N.H., and was graduated from Harvard University in 1809; studied law under his father, and was admitted to the bar in 1812. He was United States commissioner of loans in 1816-'17. a member of the legislature in 1818, and was elected to congress as a Democrat, serving by re-election from 1819 till 1825. He was an ardent Abolitionist, and delivered several speeches in congress in opposition to the admission of Missouri into the Union as a slave state. He was in the New Hampshire senate in 1827-'8, and declined a re-election in 1830, and the appointment of district attorney. He subsequently devoted himself to literary pursuits, and his last public service was as a member of the State constitutional convention in 1850. Mr. Plumer was an accomplished speaker and writer. He gave much time to historical and biographical research, and was an active member of the New England historic-genealogical society. Two volumes of his poems were printed privately (Boston, 1.841 and 1843), and he published "Lyrica Sacra" (1845) and "Pastoral on the Story of Ruth" (1847), and, in part, edited the life of his father, mentioned above.

Notes for DANIEL (REV.) PLUMER CILLEY:
Daniel Plumer CILLEY was ordained Feb. 6, 1833, Pastor in Northwood and Newmarket until 1839. Moved to Pittsfield for 4 years, and in 1843 his pastorate took him to Manchester, NH. Resigned due to bad health, moved to the country, and once again took up the call at Great Falls, NH and three years at Farmington. Took a leave of absence to serve as Chaplain, 8th NH Volunteers, commissioned Nov. 4, 1861. Suffered greatly in the Port Hudson and Red River campaigns, served under B.F. Butler and N.P. Banks, commissioned Chaplain of the 2nd NY Calvary and mustered out in Dec. 1865. After, served as a missionary of the American Missionary Association in Alabama [Haines Genealogy says North Carolina, where his family was with him from 1868-1873], but returned to Farmington due to ill health where he died.
