I found the book in the Indep. Mid Continent Library and photocopied most of the Shirkey genealogy pages. The book was falling apart and I think they sent it out to have it repaired but I was able to finish getting most of the Shirkey genealogy. They didn't use the NGS or the registration numbering system but rather the system of adding more numnbers to the string (I can't think of what it's called).
