Poage-Mitchell connection
Posted by: Julie Date: December 05, 2000 at 17:59:44

I have two questions for this Poage group:

First of all, one of my family lines is MITCHELL. I have traced my Alexander Mitchell and his sister, Mary Mitchell McCulloch Woods though the Poage line to Martha Poage m. Andrew Woods, settling in Ohio Co., WV (VA) in the late 1700s. Their father was (Capt.) John Mitchell. BUT looking through all the data, there are lots of Mitchells in VA in the 1700s, particulary in the Augusta Co area.

Reading through the "Descendants of John and Robert Poage" reference, it appears that Martha J. and Margaret "Peggy" Mitchell married Poage brothers (sons of John Poage of Rockbridge), and that Martha and Peggy had another sister named Elizabeth and a brother named John. I don't believe this is my family, but I would like to eliminate them, if possible. Does anyone have any information on this Mitchell line that marries into the John Poage family?

Secondly,
I have found a court record where a Robert Poage takes responsibility for an orphan, Elizabeth Mitchell(i.e. she is bound to him). Does anyone know WHICH Robert Poage this is or WHICH Elizabeth Mitchell this is? I believe the order is dated abt 1758.

Thanks for any assistance!
