The minute book of the Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church located in the northeastern part of Chester co SC contains the names of many members of several Poage families. The church was located about one-half mile from the county line with York co, and many members of the congregation lived in York co. The reader should take NOTE: There are multiple entries for the same name, e.g., there are several Josephs, two different men definitely and possibly as many as four. The largest of all the families was John Poage: son Jas. Harrison was baptized on May 29 1814, daughter Keziah Elvira was baptized on Nov 5 1815, son Hugh McClure on Aug 3 1817, John and Hannah are listed consecutively as communicants during the churchyear of 1820-21 as if they were husband and wife but the record does not say that, Sarah Lucretia baptized on May 30 1819, Will Robinson on June 17 1821, John on Aug 6 1824, Joseph Sylvanus and Will Andrew are both baptized on Apr 28 1827, Hannah died sometime during the churchyear of 1830-31, Samuel is baptized on Feb 17 1832, Rob. Miller on July 24 1833, Leroy Davies on Oct 12 1834, Anne Francis on Sept 10 1838, David Randolph on July 19 1840, Caroline Elisa on Oct 23 1842, George Theodore on Sept 20 1846. Typically the baptismal dates follow the birthdates by 2-3 weeks to 2-3 months.
