Your comment about 'being a serious reseracher' set me thinking as it is thought provoking.

Most of us are 'serious' in our research but I wonder what each of us considers is 'proof'.

Why did you start ?
Was it a 'family story' which you set out to prove.
How did you go about it?
Perhaps you would like to comment on which sources you used, which sources you would use with caution, and any you would consider were very suspect.
Did you find any problems along the way with the 'story' and your findings such as dates which did not tally, wrong parentage, or any other 'facts' which were obviously incorrect?
How did you check anything you found?

Were you able to find all you needed on the web?

Or did you have to visit libraries and other places which hold records?

It may be that your method may help a beginner
