Can any one shed a little light on a Pocklington mystery? My Great-great Grandmother was Sarah Coulson, who gave her age as 27 in the 1851 Census when she was the unmarried 'housekeeper' of William Folkes of Tydd St Mary. I believe that she is the Sarah Pocklington Coulson baptised in Holbeach in 1822, almost certainly the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Coulson and one of the Pocklingtons (it was common practice to give an illegitimate child their father's surname as a second name). Sarah had two children of her own in 1751 - Ann Bellamy, and Levi, surnamed Bellamy in the Census, but recorded as Folkes on his birth certificate. His relatively unusual christian name is possibly a clue to Sarah's father, or a relative of her father - Levi Pocklington, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Pocklington of Skendleby, Lincolnshire. Levi was married to a woman named Susanna and had at least four children I have found born between 1803 and 1815 in Scremby and Candlesby. Does anyone have any information on Levi and his family or the Parentage of Sarah?
