John Sr. Podgurski was my greatuncle. I've looked through the microfilm for Halifax, 1912 - 13, for John and his sister Anne, but haven't had luck yet. The story was John's mother (Name as yet, unknown) died when Albert was young. John's father Michael Podgursky was struck by lightning going to the barn, and was killed when Albert was about 5.
What I have found is this:
Maria Podgurski NEE Lesniowski arrived in Canada on the 4th of March, 1914 at 9: a.m. on board the SS Principello, of the Uranium Stemship Line, which had sailed from Rotterdam on the 14th of Feb, 1914.
With her were Stanislaw Podgurski (Stanley) her 8 month old son, and
Wojcech (Albert Sr. ) Podgurski, 11 year old brother of John Sr. (My grandfather)
She was on her way to meet her husband, a miner in Sydney.
On June 11, 1927 the SS Arabic, of the White Star Line, Arrived in Halifax, at Pier 21.
On Board were Katarzyna Lesniowska and her 6 month old daughter, Helena. Katarzyna was a 27 year old housewife from Rudolowice, Poland, on her way to her husband Stanislaw Lesniowski, who was living at Box 392, New Waterford, CB, NS, Can. She was travelling with passport # 17094 issued in Jaoslw 12 May 1927. Katarzyna's father was listed as Tomasz, from Mazur Rudolowice, Poland.
On board the same ship was Anna Lesniowska. She was single, a domestic, age 20. Anna was on her way to her sister, Marie Lesniowski, who had payed her way, and was also living at Box 392, New Waterford. Anna was travelling on Passport # 17093, also issued at Jaroslaw on 12 May 1927.
Anna's Father was listed as Jan Lesniowski, living in Rudolowice, Poland.
