Wm's mother's name was Oner Dorsey, b. 1773 Ann Arundel Co., Md., dau of Ely and Ruth Dorsey.
SOURCE: p.79 "The Poffenberger Family" by Georgiana H. Randall 1979:"He died before 1888 since his children had his share in the estate of his brother Joseph at that time. He married in Washington County, Maryland (according to Power in his Sangamon County, Illinois, but license not found as yet) to Elizabeth Harris. Question: Did he marry second in Sangamon County, Illinois 13 Oct 1855 to Rebecca Johnson?
He is said to have gone to Ohio (probably in 1826 with his brother, Christian) and to have gone on to Sangamon County, Illinois in 1839. In 1876 he was living one mile west of Breckenridge in Sangamon County, Illinois (Power).

1850 census for Sangamon County, Illinois (p. 26 #1061): William, age 40, with 600 real estate, born Maryland, with wife Elizabeth, age 38, born Maryland and first seven children listed below.

1860 census, 17th Subdivision Springfield P. O. p. 26 #1814: W. Roffenburg age 48, miller, born Maryland R? age 30, female b. Ind 15 Ill. M fe ae 16, A M (Adam) 14, J M (Jackson) 13 M E (Elizabeth) fe b. Ind. D M (Douglas) r, H fe 1.

Children: First seven are from the 1850 census; others from the settlement of their Uncle Joseph's estate in 1888."

SOURCE: p. 248-9 From Germany to Antietam by Thomas Poffenberger 2003: "William was born about 1810 and married Elizabeth Harris in Washington Co. They went to Ohio about 1826 and Sangamon Co., Ill. in 1839. He may have married Rebecca Johnson there in 1855. He died by 1888. His children were said to be Matilda, Calvin, Columbus, Martian, Adam, Andrew Jackson, Elizabeth, John R., Henrietta and Douglas."
