This is from Michael Miller (great great great grandson of Mandy Pogue):
According to family LEGEND (NO FACT BASIS IN THIS ASSUMPTION) Zachariah
Lewis Pogue (NOT Lewis Zachariah) married a woman of Indian blood, supposedly Cherokee, by the name of Fatima Ross, SUPPOSEDLY this woman
was a daughter or niece of Chief John Ross of the Cherokee Indians. No where
in the tribal records and the Ross family genealogy does the name Fatima or
Fatience exist. BUT, George Monroe Pogue FILED papers with the Indian board
through the government after the death of his father in 1904. These papers give
us the name of Fatima, BUT he also gives another name. There is no basis
in fact NOR is there any existing, probate, property or Civil Record to show who
the name of Zach's first wife or first two wives were. There is also the assumption of a "Carolina McCoy", being the second wife, and this was put forward by Joan King Pogue, who at one time said she had proof, however no proof ever came out. There is also mention of Miss Bush or Bunch, NO PROOF
there either. The only reason I am putting Fatima in these records or the name
Fatima, IS the fact that the papers do back some of this, IT IS SMALL, AND ALMOST OF INCONSEQUENCE. However the ONLY documented wife and marriage of Zachariah Lewis Pogue is that of to his last wife, Louisa Flowers in Tennessee in 1848.

Until such proof can be found to document the name of the wife of Zach Pogue, then we must take on the assumption of the legend, but never pass it off as a given fact until the marriages or names can be documented. Two of his sons Wm Anderson & Wiley Lee both died after 1910, but no death certificate can be located for either. reply to:
