I just returned from a trip to Ireland. There is currently a very popular singing group called the Pogues, and I was told that the word did mean "kiss" in Irish (formerly called Gaelic, we were told Irish was the politically correct term). But the Pogue surname does, from all I can determine, derive from Pollock as explained in the other poster's previous message. Would love to hear from you to discuss the Pogues in more detail.
