In Reply to: POITRAS in Brown County WISCONSIN by Julie Mofle of 257

I became interested in your Poitras posting after replying to your Bouchard posting.

Ursula Partras (Celia or Cecilia Poitras) married Alfred Bouchard on 3 july 1859. See Brown County marriages Volume 2, page 111. It appears that Alfred married in Wisconsin while Anthyme went back to Riviere-du-Loup to find a spouse. Celia is most likely the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Poitras who you will find under the surname of Potrai in the 1860 census of Suamico, Brown County, WI, page 7 of 10. Joseph Poitras was a Hotel Keeper.

Another gray area is Lydia Bouchard's parentage and marriage. Lydia Bouchard married Ernest Larson on 15 October 1888 in Brown County, Volume 4, page 327. However, Ernest's name was not Larson. The 1880 Brown County, Green Bay, District 8, page 24/67 census shows him as Ernest Lison, son of Isadore and Mary Lison. His parents were born in Belgium which means he spoke French. The 1900 Brown Coiunty, Green Bay Ward 2, District 11, page 12/21 census lists Ernest and Lydia Liesen and family. His parents are shown to be born in Belgium and her birth date is given as February 1868. Consequently, there are two Bouchard candidates to be Lydia. One is 12 year old Lizzie Bouchard daughter of Antime and Jane (Genevieve) Bouchard in the 1880 census. The other is 12 year old Palmyre Bouchard daughter of Alfred and Celia in the 1880 census. However, Palura Bouchard marries John Phillipps on 24 December 1885 in Brown County, Volume 4, page 198 of marriage records. The 1900 Brown County, Suamico, District 34, page 10/25 lists John and Palmere Phillips and family. Her birth date is given as August 1867. Therefore, since this data accounts for Palmyre’s whereabouts then Lydia must be Lizzie the daughter of Anthyme and Genevieve Bouchard.
