Hi CJ

You mention that the Poitras were born in Upper Canada between Montreal and Ottawa. The ones I've come across were in Lower Canada, situated between Montreal and Ottawa. There were Poitras families living in St Andrew's East, Quebec as well as in Rigaud, Quebec which would situate your research in Lower Canada. Pointe Fortune,Quebec situated across the river from St Andrew's East is the limit between Upper and Lower Canada.
I checked the Rigaud records and found nothing relating to your query. As for St Andrew's East, their records begin as of 1833. That doesn't mean however that these Poitras' weren't born there earlier seeing settlement occurred as early as the late 18th C. There is a website you might try called "Ingeneous database" or perhaps the "Quebec genealogy forum" I'm sure someone out there has some information.

Good luck

Lorraine
