Hello Ivo,

I don't know about being related, but maybe you can help me with spellings of the Polacek name. Until recently I didn't know that there were so many different spellings. My grandfather did tell my uncle that "Polacek" is NOT the original spelling for the family. My Great Grandfather Adolph and his family came to this country around the turn of the century. Eventually, all the brothers (there were about 6) and sisters (2) settled in the Chicago area with their families. Family tradition has them coming from Bohemia. My G Grandfather worked in a Czech store in Chicago and he and my Grandfather spoke a form of German that Grandpa said was Bohemian.

Spellings that I have seen on documents include:
Polatscheck
Polachek
Plateshek
Polatsek

Any assistance would be appreciated. I haven't even begun my search overseas (my German is too rusty). I was hoping to find more info in the US, so I would know WHERE to begin.
Thanks
Eileen
