In a recent message, Charlie suggested that 85% of immigrants came through Ellis Island with the remaining 15% through Baltimore.
I don't know what the percentages should be but thousands and thousands of immigrants to the States arrived via Canadian ports, moving on to their U.S. destinations via train and crossing at places like St. Albans, Vermont; Detroit; Buffalo; and in the west, south from Winnipeg to Emerson / Pembina or even further west at Portal, ND.
Unfortunately the Canadian passenger records have not yet been indexed but they are readily available on microfilm for direct research either through the LDS or through public library interlibrary loan system.
