Hi Wendy and Sue,
Thanks to Sue’s uncanny ability to locate immigration records, she has found multiple Ellis Island passage records for your great grandparents Stanislaus and Marianne and their daughter Czeslawa/Stella.
The first passage indexed on Ellis Island (EI) as Stanislaw and Maryanna “Pelichowski” was cancelled.
The second passage indexed as Stanislaw and Maryanna “Peliehowski” did happen and the couple arrived in New York on October 31, 1907 on board the S.S. Fredrich der Grosse. There is an interesting family lore that another woman had traveled on Maryanna’s ticket, and that Maryanna remained in Poland to give birth to her daughter Czeslawa/Stella.
Finally, Marianne and Czeslawa “Pihehowska” arrived in New York on March 2, 1909 on board the S.S. Nordam.
On all three (3) passage records, they list “Kikol/Kikowa” Plock, Russia as their last residence. Also, on the March 2, 1909 passage, Marianne lists her father-in-law, Jan Pilichowski of Brzesc-Kujawski, as her nearest relative.
There is a 1910 U.S. census, indexed as Stanislaw “Pilcofski” living at 8369 Mackinaw Ave., in (South) Chicago, IL. According to that record, Stanley and Mary were married in 1902. They had two children: Czeslawa/Stella born in Poland in 1908 and Casmir/Charles born in Illinois on February 24, 1910 (died on June 23, 1992, Social Security #389-03-7496).
There is a WW I Draft registration Card for a Stanley “Pilichowsky”. He was born in Poland on March 21, 1882. At the time of his registration on September 12, 1918, he was living at 411 Fourth Ave. in Moline, IL. He was employed as a laborer for the Moline Wagon Company. He listed his brother Thomas as his nearest relative.
There is also a WW I Draft Registration Card for a Thomas Pilichowski. He was born on December 23, 1872. At the time of his registration on September 12, 1918, he was living with his brother at 411 Fourth Ave., in Moline, IL. It appears that he also worked for the Moline Wagon Company. Thomas was married and listed his wife Jadwiga Pilichowski in “Wicsz Nizigod, Lubraniz, Russia” (could be Lubraniec) as his nearest relative.
There is also a Baltimore passage record for a Thomas “Pilachowski”. He arrived in Baltimore on March 7, 1910 on board the S.S. Cassel, which sailed from Bremen, Germany. His destination was 8306 Superior Ave., (South) Chicago, IL, where he was going to join his brother Frank. His nearest relative in his native land was his wife Jadwiga in “labin, Warshau, Russia”. Frank had previous passages in 1902 and 1906. He listed his place of birth as “Kuziniow” (could be Kuznice).
Best regards,
Norbert
